Bernie McKendrey

Bernie has a wide-ranging level of experience and expertise across the financial services industry and government in roles encompassing all facets of management, to Board level. She has been instrumental in the establishment and running of corporate functional areas including Governance, Internal Audit, Regulatory Relations, Regulatory Compliance and Risk areas within large financial service organisations, in Australasia and the UK. She has led both regulatory change and remediation (enforcement) projects, has worked in a big four consulting firm and has been consulting and advising clients for over 18 years.

Bernie originally trained and worked as a Nucleographer, before changing direction into accountancy, law and financial services.

Bernie is a Life member and past Board member the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) in New Zealand and has been a co-opted member of the Australian Board. She has provided training and education to members in both countries. She was a member of the Financial Services Interest Group for CAANZ (previously NZICA) and was a facilitator and marker for their previous qualifying regime (PCE I and II). Bernie has provided foundation training for RIMS NZ & pI Chapter (the Risk Management Society) a global, not for profit organisation dedicated to the advancement of the practice of risk management.

She undertakes a range of pro bono activities, having had an advocacy role with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). She has provided guest lectures for University MBA programmes, assisted Transparency International NZ, on their Financial Integrity System Assessment (FISA) and including writing articles in their newsletter. She has provided feedback on regulatory reforms and draft legislation.  ‍
