Tennis player Marcus Daniell is being nominated by The New Zealand Olympic Committee to stand for the International Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission. We are pleased to hear of his nomination and continued championing of sustainability and ethics.
He is a Wimbledon and Australian Open Quarterfinalist, a 5-time ATP Tour titleholder, holds numerous caps for the NZ Davis Cup Team, and is a double Olympian. He won the bronze medal in Men’s Doubles at the Tokyo Olympics and narrowly missed qualifying for Paris.
The 34-year-old is one of 30 athletes standing for election to four available spots on the Commission, which works to ensure that athletes' viewpoints remain at the heart of decisions made by the Olympic movement.
Marcus drew our attention in 2021 when he spoke to the United Nations General Assembly first ever session on Anti-corruption about integrity in tennis. He later submitted an article titled Integrity in Tennis to the Transparency Times.
Marcus is also the founder of High Impact Athletes, a charity that harnesses the wealth and voices of professional athletes to raise awareness of Effective Giving and to do as much good in the world as possible.
Congratulations Marcus and good luck.
