TINZ is a contributing chapter to the 2024-2029 Transparency International Indo Pacific Programme (TI IPP). This programme is co-funded via Transparency International by the Departments of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand and Australia. Pacific chapters (or chapter in formation) of TI in Vanuatu, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Australia are also delivery partners in the programme.
TINZ’s work focuses on cross Pacific concerns including Polynesia. In 2022 we produced research on the interlinking risks of money laundering and corruption across the Pacific.
In 2025 we are working more on opaque financial systems as well as some other thematic areas. We have started scoping a civil society focussed project looking at who uses and who loses from offshore financial centres, tax havens, flags of convenience, foreign company registrations, trust arrangements and golden visas. These mechanisms set up risks of lack of accountability, transparency and integrity. That research will need independent funding to get it from concept to reality and we are hoping to secure that in 2025 for a 2026 start.
Our TIIPP programme coordinator Rochelle Stewart-Allen is also working on an ambitious programme of nine open webinars in 2025. Themes of these will be environmental governance, organised crime, beneficial ownership/anti money laundering and women in politics in the Pacific. There will be fabulous speakers and chairs. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and website events page for more information.
