As part of our mission, Transparency International New Zealand regularly presents to groups and organisations about issues around transparency and fighting corruption.
Last week TINZ CEO, Julie Haggie with the assistance of TINZ Board member, Brendon Wilson presented to the students from the New Zealand English Language Training for Officials (NZELTO) training course.
This course offered by the New Zealand Government provides English language training for government officials from Asia. Officials come to New Zealand for up to five months to improve their English and build relationships.
Julie’s presentation was included in the course section on governance.
Julie talked about governance and development principles; the value that transparency, accountability, inclusiveness and participation can bring to societies; the value of ensuring the civil society voice is promoted and heard. She looked at some positive examples from their countries, and talked about what can be done to shift really tough problems like endemic bribery.
Rosvita from Timor-Leste who introduced Julie and Brendon offered this thanks:
On 25th of May 2023, it was a privilege for us, the NZELTO students, to have you as our Guest Speaker. On behalf of the NZELTO students, through this email, I would like to express our thankful to you for your kindness in sharing the very valuable information, knowledge and experiences on the issues of corruption and how to prevent and combat it from the NGO's perspective, with some reflection on the NZ context.
It was very inspiring and fruitful for enriching our perspectives, sensibilizing our respective professional careers as civil servants and for the interest of the development of our own respective countries.
