Transparency International is actively engaged in a multitude of initiatives to fight corruption globally. At the end of the day, everything they achieve ultimately affects New Zealanders.
Select Current Initiatives
In the lead-up to COP30 - 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference, TI is sharpening its focus on climate governance, working to ensure transparency in climate finance and policy implementation, particularly in vulnerable regions like the Amazon.
In collaboration with USAID, Transparency International has launched new partnerships to strengthen anti-corruption frameworks in high-risk countries, supporting democratic institutions and civic engagement.
The organization is also intensifying efforts to expose opaque ownership in the real estate sector, advocating for beneficial ownership transparency to stop the flow of illicit funds into property markets around the globe. These initiatives reinforce Transparency International’s mission to create systemic change and uphold integrity across sectors and borders.
Open Letter to COP30
In March Transparency International alongside over 250 organisations - including GreenPeace, WWF, and ActionAid Brasil - signed an open letter calling for immediate action to end the high polluters lobby’s grip on UN Climate Talks at COP30.
The letter calls on Brazilian authorities and the UN Climate Change Body (UNFCCC) to address the growing influence of high-polluting industries at COP30. The coalition wants greater transparency, accountability, and ethical standards in climate diplomacy, demanding an end to the corrupting influence of fossil fuel lobbyists.
To achieve this, they are asking for 4 Key Actions…
- A conflict-of-interest policy to exclude fossil fuel and polluting industry lobbyists from state delegations.
- Transparency standards to ensure full public disclosure of all affiliations by COP participants and lobbyists.
- Revised host country agreements and COP Presidency standard to end partnerships with polluting industries at COP30 and beyond.
- A reformed COP presidency selection process to ensure future hosts demonstrate real progress on climate action and human rights.
Real Estate Ownership
In March TI launched the Unveiling the Opacity in Real Estate Ownership Index. The index reveals alarming opacity and money laundering vulnerabilities in global real estate markets
Alongside this effort, TINZ has added real estate transparency to its list of strategic initiatives.
